When we think dysfunctional relationships, we think of being trapped in a terrible relationship with someone else like a dysfunctional marriage or a dysfunctional family. But what about a dysfunctional relationship with our own self?
Here are the ways in which these days the most harmful dysfunctional relationship we have is the one we have with ourselves:
1. Our Body
Body, No. You can't eat. You have to be super thin. That is your only purpose. Stop grumbling & groaning & falling ill & becoming weak.
Body, No. You won't be exercising but here's what you will do: sit all day at a desk & sit late in the night by a television.
Body, No. You cannot have the prescribed amount of water. But you will have an entire pot of coffee.
Body, You will be pushed to your limits but you wont be taken good care of.
Hello Comfort Food, Fill the emptiness & the void within me & make me feel oh so good.
Bye Food, Need to starve, so I can be pencil thin.
Food, You are not a source of energy & nutrients. We have multivitamin pills for that. Your main purpose is to taste good even if its junk for the body. Got it?
Food, You stress me out. Every bite I eat, I have to measure the calories & burn you off my body.
Hello Social Media, Netflix, Online shopping. Goodbye, Sleep.
4. Our Soul
Hello World. Goodbye, Soul.
5. Our Ego
Hello Ego, Take me places. Buy me things. Earn me great reviews. Give me power. Find me someone or something to make me feel whole & happy. Find me a quick fix.
