That moment when she realized
that Life isn't about
being pretty but being gritty
is when she understood
what the Universe was
whispering to her all along.
In her downward spiral, the Universe reached out to her in a consciousness altering moment.
"What are you doing?" The Universe asked her.
"Trying to fill the void that I have known all of my life." She responded.
"You are missing the point. You don't fill the void. You face the void. That is how you awaken your Soul. I put the void, the darkness in your path because it is the nature of Light to endure darkness. You can try filling the void with meaningless pursuits, empty relationships, annihilating addictions and the world's madness but that will only sever your connection to your Soul and to a beautiful life. Make a choice and don't look back." The Universe responded.
And the Universe watched her as she made a choice and never looked back.
She entered the dungeon as a little girl.
"Why are you still here?" The Universe asked her, years later.
"I don't know how to get out."
"Open the doors of perception."
"But where's the key?"
"You are the key."
"I don't understand."
"The key to meditation, the key to contemplation, the key to endure, the key to courage, the key to a strong will, I built them into you. Every key you need is on the inside and not on the outside. Now go on."
And the Universe watched as she stepped out of the dungeon and beyond.
Sometimes you have to trust yourself
Sometimes you have to trust complete strangers
Sometimes you have to trust the beginning
Sometimes you have to trust the ending
Sometimes you have to trust that feeling in your heart that just knows
Sometimes you have to trust that rational thought in your mind
Sometimes you have to trust the path that calls out to you
Sometimes you have to trust the path that does not feel right
Knowing what to trust when
how to read the Signs from the Universe
We all suffer. We all endure.
Some of us will suffer & endure for love & relationships.
Some of us will suffer & endure for success & power.
Some of us will suffer & endure to fit in & follow the herd.
Some of us will suffer & endure for meaning & purpose.
We are wired to suffer & endure.
And what we choose to suffer for and what we choose to endure for is what makes us who we are and what our life will stand for.
And perhaps someday we can learn to not judge each other so harshly for the things we choose to suffer and endure for, labeling each other as freaks, losers, misfits or sell-outs.
Perhaps one day we can realize that we are all just ships of consciousness navigating an ocean of suffering & endurance & it's not a race but an experience that we choose to have.
"How's it going?"
"Downhill is how it’s going."
"The Ancients would like a report on how things are progressing with the 3D project."
"The Ancients, eh? Do you have any idea how 3D life works? Its insanity & inanity at its best."
"You are being overly dramatic."
"Really? You think so? Let me show you the billion and one ways in which this goddamn job is killing my goddamn soul. I want out of this job this instant."
"You are bound, you know that."
"So you are telling me I am doomed to eternity in this hellhole by a goddamn contract?"
"Yes. Now, what is the problem?"
"You are the problem. The Ancient Ones are the problem. The goddamn 3D world is the problem."
"Explain. Perhaps I can help."
"Sure. I would love to see you go bonkers just as I have. So here's the deal. I transmitted a nebula of energy into the 3D world. This entire nebula is composed of Warriors, Mystics and Healers. After billions of years, this nebula formed into stars and the stars died and evolution created organic life. Now this goddamn life form that is the culmination of our Energy project does not wish to play the role it was designed for. It just won't stay true to its purpose."
"What is this Organic Life called?"
"Human race, whatever the hell that means. As far as I care, they can call themselves a fool's errand or a fool's brigade."
"So why won't the human race stay true to its purpose?"
"How am I supposed to know? I told you before that Organic Life in 3D is a bad idea. Now enjoy this legitimate soul ache."
"So these healers, warriors and mystics do not want to play the role they have been built for? And that sets back our project by how many years?"
"The Human Condition does strange things to an Energy. The Energy has no recollection of its origin from the stars and from the higher dimensions. It completely associates and identifies itself with the 3D world of human experience.
Being a healer, a mystic and a warrior means enduring pain, suffering, adversity and darkness. It comes with the role and the purpose. But all they want to do is the play the role of princess, kings, clowns and merchants, seeking fairy tales, comic tales, pleasure tales and bounty tales. They trade their pain and suffering for ludicrous pursuits and validation.
These healers, mystics and warriors were supposed to bring in an era of enlightenment and awakening, evolving consciousness and energy, helping save the cosmos. And now they are helping sink the cosmos by not staying true to their purpose."
"Too late you see."
"I will report the findings to the Ancient Ones. But you are a being of higher dimensions and you have no choice but to stay true to your purpose of being a guardian of the 3D World. So do what you can and figure out a way to evolve the energy & consciousness out there. Else the Evil Ones will eat us up."
"I always knew Energy would take a beating in the 3D World but who knew that it would get so low that it would forget its purpose for existence. Now, be gone, I have to despair and rage."
We are free to be with "the One".
We are free to buy cars, phones, homes.
We are free to hail social media.
We are free to travel.
We are free to look cool and bold, successful and beautiful.
But we are not free to walk the path that calls out to us.
And we are not free to be who we truly are.
What is the nature of reality?
And will we ever understand the nature of reality? More precisely, is the human brain equipped to intercept reality?
We depend on our senses, and the human brain depends on the genetic code, neural connections, interactions and experiences to come up with its perception of reality.
Quantum mechanics has established that reality is counter-intuitive, uncertainty is built into the very fabric of reality and everything is interconnected, which means the thing that is being observed will change its nature when an observer is around, making it difficult to observe and understand reality.
The human brain, however, has an uncertainty threshold, and to conserve energy, the brain relies on trends and patterns and oversimplifies reality to the point that we are not open to anything that is counter-intuitive and strange and in contrast to our perceptions.
Perhaps then it all comes down to the ability of the human brain to handle uncertainty, weirdness and to be open to each moment to understand the nature of reality.
And perhaps even though we are wired and conditioned to rely on our senses, to shy away from uncertainty and weirdness and to not be open to each moment, perhaps, the Universe is asking us to not shy away from uncertainty and weirdness and to be open to each moment, so that our brain can uncover the nature of reality.
I resisted the practice of meditation for years. But in the midst of some heavy existential pain and turmoil, my core began to scream for meditation. So one day I found myself meditating for 20 odd minutes. And since the past month and half, meditation has become a habit & I find myself meditating daily for 30 minutes to an hour.
The way I meditate is that I simply sit on the floor, focus my eyes on the wall in front of me and observe my breathing. Sometimes I will breathe more deeply, sometimes I will chant mantras and most of the times I am simply following the maze of thoughts, deeper and deeper. Sometimes I wonder if I am even meditating because the thoughts are endless and at times I find myself engaging in those thoughts and making plans and getting restless. But, in my experience, sitting through the process for an hour, will produce results in just few days. But the key here is being open and surrendering to the process.
The idea of meditation is not to control the mind but to observe the nature of mind. The practice of meditation is about becoming more mindful of your thoughts and to not mind all your thoughts all the time as we all do. And the way meditation achieves this is by asking us to sit still, observe the whirlpool of thoughts and not react.
Based on my personal experiences, here's my take on how meditation helps:
1. Nature of reality and Nature of mind: Most of us suffer when our mind and reality are out of sync. Meditation bridges the gap between reality and the mind by opening our consciousness to the nature of mind and nature of reality, making us wiser and in the process, reducing our suffering.
2. Detachment: Meditation helps you identify the monkey mind and creates some distance between your thoughts and emotions. You learn to feel a sense of detachment from your thoughts because you understand that your thoughts are fleeting and most of your thoughts do not represent reality. You realize most of your thoughts are like static or like the big bang afterglow. You understand that your brain, at any given time, unless your survival is threatened, is simply responding to all of your life experiences and to your genetic disposition.
3. Amplifies your true nature: Meditation gives you the strength to be your true self and to follow the path that calls out to you.
4. Resistance and Acceptance: It helps you understand when you are in a state of resistance to life and opportunities and it gives you the strength to accept that which cannot be changed.
5. Shifting Perspectives: Meditation will shift your perspective about life, situations, people and yourself. It will break old patterns & make you question your beliefs. It will also help you experience reality from someone else's perspective by giving you a momentary glimpse of what it would be like to experience reality being the other person.
6. Altered state of consciousness: Meditation can help you connect with the infinite nature of reality, letting you experience fleeting moments of enlightenment, transcendence and joy. It can also create this "feeling" or this "state" of being pure consciousness without a human form.
7. Bridging the gap between the conscious and the subconscious: Meditation opens up a powerful communication channel between the subconscious and the conscious mind, which means our dreams will carry powerful images, metaphors and messages from our subconscious about our deepest desires, repressed memories and primal fears, giving us clarity and closure.
8. Energy Conscious: You see things in terms of energy and consciousness and you become profoundly aware of your energy and other's energy. You become more aware of energy draining and energy boosting experiences and you seek out people and experiences that amp up your energy.
9. Respecting your body: You feel the need to eat healthy food that will nourish your body. Junk food falls off the grid and your body will develop an acute intolerance to unhealthy foods as you move deeper into your meditation practice.
10. Increased Awareness and Present in the Present: Meditation will free up some of the energy tied up with our chronic thought patterns as we break free of them. It will make us more aware of the possibilities and the broader meaning of life. And it will help us stay present in the present.
Altered states of consciousness are powerful moments that break us out of our everyday reality. Its as if our psyche gets reprogrammed, our perceptions are out the door and we are no longer perceiving things from the familiar human perspective.
The way I see it - an altered state of consciousness - is when we detach from that which we are habitually attached to. This state can last for moments or a lifetime depending on the cause.
In our normal life, our brain is on auto pilot; its perceptions and paradigms stay the same as we keep having the same kind of experiences and are around the same kind of people. But the moment, we are out of our auto pilot mode of existence and we encounter something powerful that changes the frequency of our body and mind, we enter an altered state of consciousness.
How does one experience altered states of consciousness?
Here are some consciousness altering paradigms that I have experienced:
As per quantum physics, the act of being observed changes that which is being observed. In meditation, as we sit and observe the stream of thoughts that constantly arise, without attaching emotions or responses, gradually, this act of observing our consciousness alters our consciousness.
The many postures of Yoga combined with the breathing techniques alter the vibrational frequency of our body and mind, leading us to experience paradigm shifting moments.
This ancient healing practice of directing energy within the body produces a radical shift in habits and the needs of the body and the mind.
As we observe nature, our mind is disconnected from the human experience and our consciousness connects with the elements of Cosmos, leaving us with the cosmic perspective.
Running can leave us with a strange mix of exhaustion, energy, calm, fulfillment and euphoria.
Staying hungry for extended periods of time is almost like creating a passage through the body and the mind for insights, images and experiences associated with altered states of consciousness.
Any kind of tragic life experiences will alter human psyche. This can be a permanently altered state of consciousness.
Creativity can help connect dots, experience a state of flow and peel back layers of the psyche, bringing to light a transcendental experience.
Powerful mantras that one believes in with all of their being can instantly shift the state of consciousness and open the doors to a new kind of reality.
10. Sleep Deprivation
Lack of sleep for prolonged periods induces clarity filled moments and an unparalleled alertness where creativity or deep insights flow effortlessly.
Basically, any kind of experience that pushes the limits of the body and the mind & brings us out of our everyday life can lead to a shift in consciousness. We might receive images, answers, messages, or experience intense emotions and catharsis.
On the bright side, one experiences unconditional love and euphoria, clarity and profoundness. It's a state of being, a state of transcendence that is independent of achieving any desire. You cannot subdue it or control it. It comes and goes.
On the dark side, it's a state of falling through an abyss where the grief and hurt, completely annihilate a person's psyche.
An altered state can bring a person closer to their true nature and give them a fleeting glimpse of the godlike nature of reality or it can forever wreck a person, separating the person from their existing identity.
